Since there is no spectator parking at the top for the marathon, it is highly recommended that all spectators purchase roundtrip tickets that takes you from Boone to the Highland Games, the finish area of the marathon, then back to Boone.
The Highland Games has provided a great deal for marathon runners and their family & friends. Since there is no parking at the finish (except for the Highland Games patrons who pay hefty rates), runners and their spectators may purchase a special ticket only available at packet pickup. You will be able to use this ticket to depart from a special location in Boone (info available at ticket purchase time).
Round trip is $10 for spectators and one way is available to runners for $5. This special ticket also allows free admission into the Highland Games the morning of the race. This is a deal because Games tickets are $25! This will only be provided to runners for their immediate family and friends.
Do not park on the side of the road up to the Games…you will be towed!
After the race, runners can take the $5 shuttle down to the Boone site and the Grandfather Mountain Marathon will provide a free shuttle back to the start of the race at the stadium.
Families with round trip tickets will drive to the Boone shuttle area. Please get shuttle information on-site on race day to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience.
Be advised that prices could change, but we should know for sure by June 1st.
